How it works
One inch is exactly 25.4 mm. The fraction readout rounds the inch value to the nearest 1/64 inch, reduces it, and shows how far that fraction is from your entered size. Pressure fields use 1 bar = 100000 Pa, 1 psi = 6894.757 Pa and 1 kgf/cm2 = 98066.5 Pa. Temperature uses the usual Celsius and Fahrenheit relation.
The converter changes the number, not the reference. A gauge pressure and an absolute pressure differ by atmospheric pressure, so keep both on the same basis. Inch fields also accept fractions, for example 1 3/8 or 5/16.
Frequently asked questions
How is the inch fraction calculated?
The inch value is rounded to the nearest 1/64 inch and reduced, so 12.7 mm shows as 1/2 in. The readout also states the difference from your entered size in millimetres, so you can see when a fraction is only a near match.
Are the bar and psi values gauge or absolute?
The converter does not know. It converts the number you enter. Gauge and absolute readings differ by atmospheric pressure, so enter both values on the same basis.
Which conversion factors does it use?
